Disney's THE LION KING On Sale

The UT Performing Arts Center along with Disney Theatrical Productions and Broadway Across America - Austin announced today that tickets for the long-awaited Austin premiere engagement of DISNEY’S THE LION KING will go on sale to the public on Saturday, October 28 at 7:00 a.m. Austin’s most eagerly awaited stage production will debut at the UT Performing Arts Center’s Bass Concert Hall on Thursday, February 15, 2007 for a limited engagement of six weeks through Sunday, March 25, 2007. The opening night is Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 8:00 p.m.

The best way to get your tickets is to show up at the PAC Box Office before 7am to get a head start on the crowd!For the first 3 hours tickets are ONLY available in person at the PAC ticket office at Bass Concert Hall located at 23rd & Robert Dedman. Ticket buyers are invited to special box office opening festivities that include food, prizes and lots of give-aways. Join MAJIC 95.5 from 6:00 a.m to 8:00 a.m., MIX 94.7 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and KASE 101 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for all the fun! The first 100 ticket buyers will receive a free THE LION KING Original Broadway Cast Recording CD; all other ticket buyers at the UT Performing Arts Center Box Office will receive a free THE LION KING T-shirt (one merchandise item per order, while supplies last). Free parking will be available in the Manor Parking Garage located directly across from Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium at Robert Dedman Drive and Clyde Littlefield that Saturday.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, tickets will be available from the following authorized ticket sellers: all Texas Box Office outlets; online at www.BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com; or by calling (512) 477-6060, where operators are available Monday through Friday from 9:00AM – 6:00PM and Saturday from 10:00AM – 4:00PM.

Now in its tenth sold-out year in New York at the New Amsterdam Theatre, THE LION KING is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, eight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, the New York Drama Critics award for Best Musical, the Evening Standard Award for the Theatrical Event of the Year, two Olivier Awards, a Theatre World Award, the Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography, two Drama League Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony® Award for Best Director of a Musical. Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created hundreds of masks and puppets for THE LION KING. Choreography is by Garth Fagan, scenic design is by Richard Hudson, costume design is by Julie Taymor and lighting design is by Donald Holder. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated film and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for THE LION KING. The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer.

In Austin THE LION KING will play Tuesday through Friday evenings at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $21.50 to $126.50 for Premium Ticket Packages which include prime seating, a complimentary souvenir program, and the complimentary VIP show merchandise item. Beginning Saturday, October 28 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., tickets will be available exclusively at the UT Performing Arts Center Box Office at Bass Concert Hall. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., tickets may be purchased from the following authorized ticket sellers: all Texas Box Office outlets; online at www.BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com; or by calling (512) 477-6060.
