Lifelong Learning
Lifelong Learning Events offer a variety of opportunities including post-performance lectures and Q&A's with artists, demonstrations, workshops, master classes, community potlucks, brown bag lunches and activities with Broadway Series company members. Most of these events are free and open to the public.

Violin Quartet performs at the Austin State Hospital
On Tuesday, March 4th, a violin quartet from the UT School of Music performed for approximately 25 young people at Austin State Hospital.  The quartet featured UT School of Music faculty member Brian Lewis, and three of his studio students Isaac Thompson, Sarah Pizzichemi and Melanie Akau.
Faculty Pre-performance Talk
Judith and Gerre Hancock, UT School of Music faculty members and organists, will give a talk about organ music, their history of playing together, and the music for their upcoming concert.

Conley-Guerrero and South Austin Senior Center Events
Seniors from the Conely-Guerrero and South Austin Senior Centers will have the opportunity to attend three performances at the University of Texas Performing Arts Center.
  • Holiday Organ Concert, presented by the School of Music, on Satuday, December 15, at 7pm in Bates Recital Hall.
  • MirĂł Quartet Recital, presented by the School of Music, on Thursday, April 10, at 8pm in Bates Recital Hall.
  • Assassins, presented by the Department of Theatre & Dance, on Sunday, April 13, at 2pm in B. Iden Payne Theatre
  • Magic Flute - Youth Performance
    The 8th and 10th grade students in Del Valle ISD will be attending youth performances of the Magic Flute as part of the Performing Arts and Academic Collaborative between the PAC and Del Valle ISD.  For more information on the production, follow this link to the UT Webpage feature story.

    "The opera’s story arc follows a prince (Tamino) who falls in love with a maiden (Pamina), the daughter of the nefarious Queen of the Night. Tamino and his companion, Papageno, a bird catcher who is also seeking his love, Papagana, embark on a journey to save Pamina with the protection of the magic flute and its ability to charm wild beasts. The Queen of the Night and her nemesis, the benevolent Sarastro, subject the couple to tests and trials of love, truth and wisdom along their way." (Summary from article.)

    More information on the opera and Mozart's life can be found through the Austin Lyric Opera, which is also presenting several youth performances for students from Austin, Pflugerville, and Round Rock ISDs.

    PopEd 101 - Debut Event
    On Tuesday, November 13th, high school students from Bowie, Liberal Arts and Sciences Academy (LBJ), and Del Valle, and UT undergraduates affiliated with Hook 'Em Horns, were able to listen to Dweezil Zappa and his band sound check before their show.  After the sound check, the students had a conversation with Dweezil Zappa about playing his father's music, touring, and the life of a rock star.
