| Dance Teacher Professional Development for Austin Independent School District |
| The University of Texas Performing Arts Center, in cooperation with the UT Department of Theatre and Dance and Austin Independent School District, will present a professional development day for dance teachers on Monday, February 4, 2008. Teachers will have an opportunity to take a master class, learn from UT dance faculty Lyn Wiltshire, and create new curriculum for their dance classes over the course of the day. Teachers will leave with dance videos to share with their students, lesson plans created around those videos, and curriculum tailored particularly to their program and students. Though this session is available only to Austin ISD dance teachers, the UT PAC is able to present a similar workshop in other districts. The cost of the tickets is subsidized by the Community Relations Office and is free for students and teachers. Events that are part of our ticket program this year include: Miró Quartet Recital, April 10Assassins, April 11-13; 17-20 |

| Curriculum Materials |
| PAC staff creates curriculum materials for the performers and performances at the PAC. These are made available prior to performances, for teachers to use in preparing the students to see a performance or reflect on the experience. The curriculum components are written by graduate students in education, or a related field, and experienced teachers; they are also all linked to the Fine Arts, English, and Social Studies TAKS. |
 |
| In-school Performances and Artist Visits |
| Occasionally, we are able to bring our visiting performing artists out to schools, for performances, demonstrations and/or discussions with students. These events allow students to experience the performing arts in their school, and to meet artists directly to ask questions and learn about the arts. |
 |
| Pre- and Post-performance Class Visits |
| Once a teacher has made arrangements to bring students to a PAC performance, PAC educational staff is available for in-class discussions with students about the artists and performance that they will attend or have attended at the PAC. Background on the art form is given, along with detailed information about the artist and their particular performance. |
 |
| Career Fair Presentations |
| Staff at the PAC is also available to attend middle and high school career fairs. There are a variety of individuals who can speak to the various jobs that make a performing arts center function. The focus of these presentations is not on the performers, but in fact on the technical and administrative staff necessary to keep a performing arts center functioning. |
