Zappa Plays Zappa Accept No Substitutes
Hogg Memorial Auditorium UT PAC’s Hogg Memorial Auditorium Tuesday, November 13 at 8:00 PM |

|
Led by his eldest son Dweezil, Zappa Plays Zappa brings the music and compositional genius of Frank Zappa to the stage, much as a symphony orchestra would perform pieces by a master composer. Zappa Plays Zappa includes archive footage of Frank Zappa in concert played in time with the onstage band, providing an unforgettable concert experience."For [Dweezil] Zappa to be playing music at all at this point, let alone the spectacularly complex and classically based orchestrations of his father, is somewhat fortuitous." - Cleveland Free Times |

Fifty brides flee their fifty grooms and seek refuge in a villa on the coast of Italy in this modern re-making of one of the western world's oldest plays, The Danaids by Aeschylus. And, in this villa on the Italian coast, the fifty grooms catch up with the brides, and mayhem ensues: the grooms arriving by helicopter in their flight suits, women throwing themselves over and over again to the ground, pop songs and romantic dances, and, finally, unable to escape their forced marriages, 49 of the brides murder 49 of the grooms—and one bride falls in love. About the same odds as today. |

Trouble in Tahiti and The Impresario
McCullough Theatre February 22, 24, 29 and March 2
|
|
The Butler Opera Center presents two one act operas: Leonard Cohen's "Trouble in Tahiti" and W.A. Mozart's "The Impresario." "Trouble in Tahiti" is set in the affluence of a nameless American suburb (the characters at one point name a handful of fairly toney suburbs that it could have been set in), the story shows the disenchantment of Dinah with her philandering husband Sam, who is more interested in his career than in his family. They effect a reconcilement of sorts at the end of the opera, although it is doubtful that it will last. "The Impresario" mainly concerns the woes of an impresario as he deals with a troupe of performers, especially the feisty prima donnas. |

Shadow Box
Oscar Brockett Theatre April 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 at 8:00 p.m. April 6, 12, 13 at 2:00 p.m. |

|
“The Shadow Box†interweaves the lives of three dramatically different terminally ill hospice patients and their loved ones to give a dynamic, well–rounded perspective of death and dying. They struggle to find meaning in their last moments on Earth, to leave legacies, to reassure themselves their lives were actually worth living. The play shows that even though death is a personal struggle, all human beings are bound together by the same fear of death. It's how each character deals with that fear that separates them. |

Assassins Presented by the Department of Theatre & Dance
B. Iden Payne Theatre April 11 – 13 & 17-20, 2008 UT PAC’s B. Iden Payne Theatre |
|
Bold, original, surreal, disturbing, thought provoking and alarmingly funny, Assassins is perhaps the most controversial musical ever written. Told from the perspective of some of history’s most colorful characters -- people who have attempted to assassinate the President (and some who succeeded). This Sondheim musical makes us question the difference between being famous and being infamous.
